Back to Pinot Noir ~ Russian River Valley
Our Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a blend from carefully selected vineyards in this appellation: Leras Family Vineyards, Peters Vineyard, Nunes Vineyard, Bucher Vineyard, and Vin Noy Vineyard. Each vineyard holds its own distinction; and we feel that the fruit is among the best the Russian River Valley has to offer.
The 2010 vintage was a challenging growing year. It was a damp and cool summer that suddenly spiked with scorching heat. But miraculously the harvest came through with some wonderful fruit. This vintage is highly elegant, very food friendly with nicely balanced acids and refined layers.
During the fermentation and aging process, we keep each vineyard/clone separated, cold-soaking the grapes two to three days before adding several different types of yeast, cultured specifically for Pinot Noir. We hand-punch to closely control the temperature, sometimes as often as five or six times a day, and age in Francois Frères barrels for 11 months before bottling.
Medium ruby in color, this wine is like diving into a spicy raspberry bush (without the thorns of course). The supple fresh earth and spice notes meld with the bold raspberry for a beautifully balanced wine. The bright acidity leads to a long finish of tart cranberry and minerals. Drink now through 2020.
